Meta Mate Artisanal is fresh, self-harvested Mate. It has 100% old-growth forest origins. It was smoked with Yerba Mate wood, dried in a traditional manner, all from one hand.

The mate leaves are dried in the traditional way in their own Barbacuá oven, giving them a strong smoky note.

The product is vacuum packed to preserve the fresh and natural taste. Meta Mate’s Moonshine Mates are harvested in the twilight under the full moon, processed before sunrise, using aromatic medicinal wood to dry the leaves.

All mate plants grow wild in a forest in the shade of other trees, thus preserving the natural ingredients to the maximum.

A hand crafted and very fine cut mate for Chimarrao. Only a few hundred kilograms are harvested and produced in every cycle. The mate leaves are dried in the traditional way in the own Barbacuá oven, giving them a strong smoky note.

For 4 generations the Family Gehm has been producing Mate in the South of Brazil and 20 years ago Vilsom Gehm transformed some of the increasing soya monoculture into mate forest. Their natural forests contain a rich and diverse ecosystem of Mate trees which are still harvested and processed by hand. The Family Gehm is the very first and still the only family in Brazil allowed by law to harvest and process mate in traditional small scale model.

The Family Gehm is proud to be the first legally approved artesenal family mate producers in their region. This Mate goes beyond bio and fairtrade.  Harvested from forests planted by the Family under the full moonlight, by the break of dawn the frosty leaves are crackling in the fire hand spun sapeco. The leaves then undergo a slow smoke drying process with aromatic woods in a carefully crafted barbacua and is then finely pounded in an old mechanical mill.
